I've been playing around on a Russian site called PhotoFunia found via Photojojo. You upload your photo to the site and there are around fifty photo effects to choose from. Some of them use face detection like having your face appearing on Marilyn Monroe or the Mona Lisa. The face detection effects seem to be unavailable when the site has a heavy load, they don't look so good since your face will have to be at the correct angle as the picture it's being put onto. Have a go and post your results, it doesn't take a lot of effort.

I consider myself to be lucky. I am not suffering in a war zone, I don't have to worry about where my next meal is going to come from. Although I do sometimes get a run of bad luck. I'd rather not have bad luck than getting good luck. Am I only prone to getting bad luck ?

To date I've never won anything that requires luck i.e prize draws, lotteries, finding money in the street. My dad has won some stuff from prize draws. Some people I know have found money in the street a couple of times. I've even heard of people who win the lottery a few times too (not the top prize).

To test this theory about me. I'm going to enter a free competition a day, just one. There are some forums where these get posted and people who obsess over it. They post there winnings in thier signature and they seem to win regularly. There is no skill to it right ? So far I've been doing this for a month and nothing yet. After a year if I win nothing, I'll know what to always expect.

Years and years ago I made a casual remark to my girlfriend that "Sprite" lemonade isn't sold in the UK. No biggie to me but to this day I still get chastised for lying about it. Usually I am very honest ... trust me !

It's not shocking to hear kids whine to their parents about buying them the latest gadget (although I never did this), then months later the kids get bored of the gadget and want something else.

My dad is not immune to the latest iphone hype and declared his need for one. He has a teenage like need to change his phone often. Despite the fact he does not even know how to take a picture with his camera phone correctly. I can imagine him fumbling around with the iphone interface and frustratingly dumping it in a corner leaving it to gather dust. Also he has the habit of changing his phone number and not telling me about it.

Crazy Wait ... this is a movie about a four couples where the men have to do Miltary service for two years and what happens to their relationships during that time. It's no a particularly good movie though it does raise some thoughts for me.

Spoilers ahead, in this situation, 24 months seems a hell of a long time, especially at the age of conscription into the Milatary. In this situation though, the guys can't cheat on the girls. The typical lovey dovey couple has the girl going off with the guys best friend ! I feel bad for the guy. The only couple that seemed to get out still together was the one where the woman was older and had been through a lot of relationships. My feelings it's a tough test and if you come out of it bad you know things weren't meant to be.

Google released have recently released lively, a kind of like second life virtual world that you can embed into any website. I've never tried or wanted to be on second life, but for some reason I gave lively a go.

First thing I noticed was the rooms were quite sluggish in loading, even the rooms with nobody in them ! There can't be that many people on the network, since it's just come out ! I choose a cat as my avatar, the selection of avatars isn't bad but I couldn't be bothered to dress them up suitably. The most obvious thing different from chat rooms is you can perform various actions on other people see them animated. Perhaps annoying is when someone laughs you'll hear it in the whole room !

You can create your own rooms and dress it up with furniture, putting up your own pictures and even stream video from youtube onto some of the cinema screens. I did n't have the time to play around with that aspect.

Inevitable some of the top popular rooms were "adult" themed based shall we say and there were a lot of German and Russian rooms too. One room a ventured had a normal sounding name yet had some lesbian video streaming on the cinema screen from youtube !

Here I entered the room as a cat, most folk were humans. In the room people were standing around in cliques and everyone was ignoring me, just like a real party. However someone soon kicked me and then some females picked me up and hugged me, saying how they like cats. For most of the time being a cat means you get ignored !

Funniest thing was, I went into a room called San Francisco, some people were speaking Spanish in there and someone quipped "Who let foreigners in here ?", everyone ignored him and continued speaking Spanish, to which he said "Am I the only one who speaks English here ?".

There is a kind of novelty to it, though it wears thin after a while, I think it's best as a tool to interact with folks you already know, since there are a lot of obnoxious creeps and lurkers floating around (nothings changed there then). At the moment it's too sluggish and I don't know anyone else on lively.

Recently retired Microsoft founder Bill Gates gave some tips to high school students. I am not a fan of Microsoft but some of his tips are spot on. I just thought besides the basic reading and writing, they don't teach you much stuff you can use in real life, like if  did I ever use pythagorus's theorem ?

RULE 1: Life is not fair  -  get used to it!

Well people don't play fair too do they ? Bill should know about that !

RULE 2: The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

RULE 3: You will NOT make £30,000 ($60,000) a year right out of high school.

RULE 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

So true ... teachers are soft.

RULE 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: opportunity.

RULE 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes  -  learn from them.

RULE 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills and listening to you talk about how cool you are.

Yeah my dad reminds us how rich he would be if he didn't have any kids.

RULE 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT.

RULE 9: Life is not divided into terms. You don't get summers off, and very few employers are interested in helping you "find yourself". Do that in your own time.

RULE 10: TV is not real life. In real life, people have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

RULE 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one!
This is the funniest one ! Nerds have their place in the world like everyone else.
