After the terrible earth in China, people volunteered from other provinces and travelled far to help. The disaster brought out compassion. Yet others use the situation for they own benefit trying to con others into donating to them. That is the worse kind of human characteristic. It's like stealing from the dead, dying and those most in need. I don't understand it.
Nanking the film, had a limited release in the states this week. This year 2007 marks 70 years since the massacre of Nanking during world war II. The film concentrates itself on the foreigners John Magee who witnessed and filmed the massacre.
I don't know if this film will be released over here, frankly I am a little scared to see it, because it would be so painful, gruesome and horrific to watch, but I am going to watch it. I couldn't begin to imagine the horrors of war. A friend of mine, his grandmother had to strangle her own baby daughter to death, while they were hiding from the Japanese troops during the war, because she was the crying noise she made would have alerted the soldiers and put the other people she was hiding with in peril.
I don't feel I will come out of watching this film as hating Japanese. I could feel the hate from my dad for Japan but it didn't rub off onto me. I am not anti-japan. I have even been accused for "betraying my country" for drinking Japanese tea by someone from Shanghai. Japanese like Professor Ienaga Saburo do strive for the truth.
I am pissed off with the people that commited the crimes and their goverment for denying everything. Disgustly there is a Japanese film about Nanking being made too, mockingly called the truth about Nanking, the director claiming Nanking to be Chinese propaganda, well this is an American film and the truth is always consistent.
"sorry" is such a hard word to say ... Australia will manage to say it.
We can forgive but we should never forget ...
